Optimization happens before quota is measured

Kopia divides snapshot data into content-addressed blocks. Blocks that already exist in the repository do not need to be stored again, and new data is compressed before it becomes an encrypted repository object.

Results vary with the workload. Slowly changing folders may achieve substantial savings, while encrypted archives or database output that changes completely between runs can deduplicate less effectively.

The customer gets the storage benefit

SaveState measures the plan against the actual encrypted repository footprint after compression and deduplication. The dashboard separately shows original backup data protected, optimized storage used, and space saved.

Put this feature into a recovery plan

Install SaveState on Windows, protect a representative data set, and test the restore before it is urgent.
